Ocean River is a proud member of Paddle Canada
Ocean River has been running Paddle Canada certification programs since they first were developed, in fact, we were part of the development of the program. Check out our upcoming courses here.
About Paddle Canada
Paddle Canada sets national standards for instruction and certification for recreational paddling: canoe, kayak and stand up paddleboard. Every year, over 2500 Paddle Canada certified instructors deliver sanctioned courses to more than 15,000 paddlers across Canada. Paddle Canada certifications are nationally accredited and internationally recognized.
Mission Statement
We promote, educate, and support the recreational paddling community, paddling instructors and partners.
History
Paddle Canada was formed in 1971 to help co-ordinate non-competitive canoeing and kayaking across Canada. Under the direction of a volunteer Board of Directors, Paddle Canada works in cooperation with its Regional Member Associations, instructor and individual members and the paddling public to deliver training for safe and enjoyable paddling.
The Paddle Canada National Sea Kayak Program
The Sea Kayak program includes nationally recognized certifications in five skill levels, five instructor levels, and four instructor-trainer levels. Certifications are earned during course participation and through a process of mentorship. Paddlers are also taught the Leave No Trace principles to encourage active environmental awareness and protection.
The skill levels stream begins with an introduction to kayaking and evolves to the development of the skills and knowledge necessary for safe sea kayak touring.
