Ocean River turned a bunny’s worst nightmare into a Canada 150 dream come true.
Over the weekend the owner of Ocean River, Brian Henry, was working as a taxi driver in the Gulf Islands and a tiny stowaway was left behind. Bunny was separated from his mom and when she realised she asked us to return him to her. Before this though we tried to cheer him up by showing him around Victoria for Canda 150. Check out Bunny’s day bellow and travel along on a great Canadian adventure as told from Bunny’s own words.
I was really worried because I was in a big city without my mom but the team at Ocean River was really nice to me and said they were going to get me home really fast. Still, I was upset so they decided the best thing to do was to take me out and show me around Victoria to take my mind off of it.
Before we headed out to explore the city we stopped in at the Tourism Victoria Information Centre to plan out what to do that we could easily walk to downtown and get back in time for me to head home. The people there were really helpful and had really nice t-shirts – the lady who helped me had fingernails that matched her t-shirt!
Did you know there is free live music outside in Downtown Victoria every day leading up to Canada Day? Spirit 150 Victoria music today was multicultural themed so there was music from many different places and periods in time. I thought that was a great way of showing Canada’s belief in being inclusive. There are many different kinds of bunnies too but we all need love the same amount.
We went to the night market… in the middle of the afternoon, and tried on some hats. My head was a little too small but we made the nice lady who makes the hats smile so I didn’t feel too bad about not being a paying customer.
I saw this really cool big pirate ship. The staff who was taking care of me from Ocean River said that it was one of the S.A.L.T.S ships. I said I wanted to go on the ship but they said it probably would not be allowed….
Never underestimate the power of a bunny. It was a beautiful boat and I really wanted to go sailing. I am definitely under 25 years old which means I could go on one of the summer camps with S.A.L.T.S but the Ocean River Staff who were showing me around can’t. They did say I could have gone on a 3-hour sailing tour with 3-hour sail Victoria and they can go on that with me but that will have to be next time because I still had to get home to my mom. I wasn’t as upset by this point though.
We didn’t get to go on a whale watching tour this time but I went and talked to the people at Prince of Whales about their new big boat. I have to admit Orcas kind of scare me after hearing about Blackfish but the Ocean River Staff told me that if we are respectful of wild animals and we leave them in their natural habitat that they will be happy. That makes sense to me because my natural habitat is with my mom and I am really happy there.
We went and visited the staff at The Empress Harbour Taxi stop and they thought it was really cool I got to see the city while I waited to go home. They thought I was really brave.
The day just kept getting better and better when the really nice people at Victoria Carriage Tours let me ride one of their horses. He was really nice and even turned and asked me how I liked Victoria. I told him I loved it and even though I was really looking forward to going home to my mom I was happy that I had gone out for a day of adventure like a big bunny.
We went and sat in the sun at the parliament buildings and watched all the tourists taking their pictures. It is really a beautiful building and I can see why so many people flock here for that perfect photo. I wish I could have seen what these big lawns are going to look like for Canada’s 150th birthday. They say that there will be a stage and free music here on Friday and Saturday.
My afternoon was definitely not over at this point. We headed over to the Empress to check out the cool old building that has just had a huge renovation.
The people at The Empress were really nice too. They thought what my friends from Ocean River were doing for me was really nice and I have to agree.
They gave me some delicious juice at The Empress, but it was no carrot juice, which is my favourite. The nice lady who worked there told me a story of her child’s bear who had been lost and returned home and that made me really happy. Other fluffy friends have gone on adventures without their mom and returned home safe with stories to tell. I will mention that that bear flew home on a helicopter which I would not mind doing but I do not believe that is the plan.
I was having so much fun out in the sun I was getting a little dehydrated so we went and got some carrot juice from Jusu. It was so good! But I had way too much and got a little bit carrot crazy which is probably how I ended up at my next stop.
Don’t worry, I didn’t get a tattoo. The Ocean River Team stopped me and told the tattoo artist I had to have my mom’s permission. He laughed and said he wouldn’t have tattooed me without my mom there anyways he just thought it would be a great picture – he was right.
After leaving Lucky Fortune Tattoo shop we headed back towards Ocean River but not before we checked out Fan Tan Alley. I watched people stand in the middle and reach out both arms to touch both sides of the alleyway but my arms weren’t long enough to do it. This little alley smells so good! Probably because of the ice cream shop and soap shop.
I was allowed to grab a steamed milk at Bean Around the World before heading back to the store to say goodbye to the Ocean River Crew. Did you know that the China Town in Victoria is the oldest China Town in Canada? I like how it is a mix of history and cool little new shops like this place.
The very last thing I had to do before heading home was to take a quick kayak ride with Ocean River. They were really good to me and I was sad to leave Victoria but very excited to see my mom soon. It will take me a few days to get home but now that I did all these things on my own today I am not worried about travelling home by myself anymore.
Mom, if you are reading this I am safe and on my way home with lots of stories to tell. Thanks to the shipper and receiver Tony for making sure I was safely packed away for a well-deserved nap.
That little bunny sure did have an eventful day. In fact, it was so eventful we couldn’t fit it all in one post. Check out our Facebook and Instagram for more photos of the little adventure with the bunny.
Love it!!!
What a wonderful story!
Things really do work out for good!
think I’d like to have experienced those adventures, especially with Margaret!
Maybe she’ll be a tour guide in the future!!
We are sure Margaret would love to show you around and spend a bit more time at a few of the places she was able to visit briefly.
