Brilliant pinks, stunning blues, dazzling yellows…a Victoria Harbour Sunset Kayak Tour is legendary and a must when visiting for business or pleasure!
As you traverse the inner harbour, upper harbour and the historic Gorge Waterway, you will be able to see the city turn from day into night. First, it’s the building lights, some turning off and others turning on, then it’s the street lights, and finally the BC Legislature lights up like a giant Christmas display, with over 3,300 light bulbs casting a magical spell over the harbour. While you are on the water, keep an eye out for eagles, herons, cormorants, river otters, harbour seals and other marine wildlife—this area is constantly full of surprise!
Please arrive to meet your guide(s) and other participants 10-15 minutes prior to your tour on our waterfront docks behind Ocean River Sports. If you are driving, please note that free street parking is available only after 6 pm. If you are parking a vehicle, we cannot be responsible for damage to or loss of your personal items, so please ensure valuables are stored securely. Our safety-conscience guides are among the most highly trained and versatile on the coast—what is more, they really know Victoria. On the water, groups larger than 6 are led by two guides. If you prefer to paddle a single or double, please let us know during your reservation.
Our paddling area encompasses the scenic 7 km stretch of calm protected water known locally as the Gorge, as well as the world’s most photographed harbour, Victoria’s Inner Harbour.
Your tour experience:
- After meeting and greeting, you will be provided with a paddling orientation, which will include the features of the kayak, personal paddling equipment, group safety protocol, and the strokes that will make paddling and maneuvering the kayak enjoyable.
- The tour will make several stops at fascinating landmarks, with the guide detailing the storied history of each stop.

5 of 5 stars – Reviewed 25 August, 2015 “Izaiah”
A gentle paddle around Victoria’s inner harbour is a perfect way to wind down another day in this wonderful city. Our guide, Izaiah was brimming full of enthusiasm, local knowledge and pride for his home city. He was super friendly, fun, reassuring and showed a genuine interest in his fellow paddlers. A pleasure to be around. A great activity. highly recommended.5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2015 “Izaiah”
We did the Sunset Kayak tour of the Victoria Harbor with Ocean River Adventures. Our Guide, Bryce, was great. We got to see a lot of the area that we would not see otherwise and learned some history as well. Seeing the harbor seals up close was a great added bonus! Also, they have some nice kayaks and equipment available for the tour.
Visited August 2015 “Seth”
We spent 5 glorious days in Victoria and on the list of activities I had planned was the Sunset Tour. Upon arriving, we were greeted by Seth, our guide, who promptly took us (my husband, 8 year old son, and myself) down to the pier to suit up. We kayak often but this was our first attempt at sea kayaking. It was an amazing experience! Seth shared some stories of the area with us and was more then accommodating to slow down the pace so my son could explore the waters a little longer. We saw jellyfish, a bald eagle and some seals. The weather and conditions were absolutely ideal on the evening we went out. Seth was also kind enough to take some great photos of us that he later shared. If in the area again, I would definitely book another trip with Ocean River Adventures.
