Ocean River opened the doors to the new store on November 4, 2016

This new store allows us to showcase a more contemporary look of a well-known and long time Victoria business. The interior features refurbished wood features, industrial pipe fixtures, movable clothing racks, exposed brick walls and a custom chart table area that is to die for. What all this means is it looks pretty awesome inside.

The rationale behind recycling materials was to keep our carbon footprint as small as possible in building the space to our needs; plus side is it has a big sentimental value as well. The wood that makes up the front till comes from Fan Tan alley, the change rooms are timber from a cabin that owner Brian Henry had. We used local business’s as much as possible to build furniture and fixtures and we even build a lot of what you will see ourself.

Another feature of the new store that is important to us is the flexibility of the space. Having all of the clothing racks on wheels allows us to not only keep the interior fresh and new feeling, but also, use the space for events. We plan on hosting many events in the store as well as becoming a location for others to use.

We are still a pet-friendly store and love it when you bring your furry friends in, your dogs too. We have many of the same brands that were vital in the previous store such as Arc’teryx, Patagonia, Icebreaker, Blundstones, Fjall Raven, Kuhl, we could go on and on. As for our boats and boards, you will notice a slimming down of the brands that will be carried to make it an easier decision for you to get the perfect paddle craft knowing that we only carry the best quality available.

The motivation for this move was for Ocean River to be closer to the downtown core and to start with a clean slate in 2017 to make sure we are providing for the community the best that we possibly can. We welcome any and all feedback and would love to hear your thoughts below!
